Nothing “grim” at O’Connell’s

A great day to be out and about in Melbourne today, and I made my way to the “gastronomic hotel”, O’Connell’s Centenary Hotel in South Melbourne. Throwing back a few beers in the relaxed surrounds, watching the cricket, with the sun shining, I needed to satisfy my growing hunger. The setting was perfect to try their “Cape Grim Beef Burger”.

The burger comes with a large beef patty, BTL, cheese and pickle on a brioche bun. This is a straight up, no nonsense burger that has a simple approach yet big on taste! The patty is very meaty and tasty, and the ‘meat to bun’ ratio is perfect – neither takes over the taste of the burger. This works perfectly with the crisp, fresh taste of the lettuce and tomato, as well as the cheese and bacon which also are not over powering at all.

Chips are served on the side, and are a solid compliment to the overall meal.

Terrific service and fairly priced at $20, this is one of the best burgers I have had in a while and I definitely recommend you get down there and give it a go yourself.
