Love is in the air!

Well it was Valentines Day recently, and given my love of burgers, how else would you expect me to spend the day?? Could this be the day I find my true burger love?? I headed down to “Cultural Commons” in Springvale to find out. I have heard plenty about this place and was very much looking forward to finding out for myself.

Cultural Commons is a bar, restaurant, café kind of place with lots of space inside, and a menu mostly filled with burgers and pizzas. I had looked at the menu online before I left and thought I knew what I was going to order, until I saw an extra sheet attached to the menu clipboard with a burger on it called the “Maverick”. This beast came with 180g grass fed beef patty, cheese, BLT, grilled onion, egg (add on), BBQ sauce and mayo on a toasted brioche bun. How could I go past that?? You can get a single, double or triple, and given the burgers being served to other tables looked pretty big, I opted for the double only.

I was starving and waited eagerly for my meal. I love that feeling when you are genuinely excited as you wait.  Maybe that is what a blind date is like where you have imagined the other person being perfect in every aspect, yet you have not seen each other in the flesh?! Hmmmmm….. anyway, I digress. Back to the burger……. as soon as it was placed in front of me I thought, “Wow! That looks like a good burger”. Could it have been love at first sight? It was perfectly constructed and obviously “made with love”, but don’t judge a book by its cover. It’s what’s on the inside that counts!!

There must have been romance in the air because from the first bite to the last, it tasted so good. The meat was cooked well and was so tasty. There wasn’t too much of anything either, ie nothing took over the taste of the burger – the sauce, bacon and cheese were all in the right proportions, and the bun was near perfect.

The only criticism was the rocket lettuce on the bottom. Sorry, I’m definitely not a fan of rocket lettuce, and as the name suggests, it should “take off”. Stick with iceberg I say, and if you have to, cos is acceptable.

Chips on the side were ok, and it was all washed down with a nice, cold Corona! Ahhhhhhhh!!

Overall this burger was really, really good and I definitely recommend you get down there and try it out for yourself. I will be heading back for a second date to have the awesomely named, “American Nightmare” at some stage too!
