Burger Royalty

Found myself in the Melbourne CBD recently at lunchtime and there was only one place I wanted to go. Royal Stacks on Collins Street. Ever since this place opened, I have heard heaps about it and I’ve been dying to go there to find out what all the hype is about. Well, finally I got my chance.

So from what I know, this place is the brainchild of the same person responsible for other great burger places in Melbourne such as Grand Trailer Park Taverna and Dandenong Pavilion. Royal Stacks is the latest venture and is in honour of the US burger chain, Shake Shack.
Monarchists will feel right at home with burger names such as “Prince Harry” and “Miss Elizabeth”. I couldn’t decide between the “Double Stack” and “Bacon Bacon”, so I compromised and killed two birds with the one stone by ordering the “Double Stack” and added double bacon. Easy!! This came with two all Australian pasture fed beef patties (minced fresh daily), tomato, butter lettuce, American cheddar, special burger sauce, pickles and the double bacon that I added!

The place is quite big with lots of seating and for 12pm on a Wednesday, was super popular and filled up really quickly. I was so excited. I felt like one of the Pointer Sisters while I waited for my meal!!! It finally arrived and it looked so “tidy” wrapped in paper. It’s a good sized, tightly packed number that is packed full of flavour. Everything was spot on. The meat was good, cheese was tasty and special sauce added some “x factor”. This was a good quality burger. The only criticism was that there was too much special sauce and it oozed out everywhere, taking away from the “tidiness” of the experience.

French fries on the side were good, and I also took another big step with this meal too. I finally decided to try having my burger meal with a milkshake!! Without wanting to get too adventurous, I went with traditional Chocolate and it was surprisingly good! Filling, but good!

Overall this was a great experience, and Royal Stacks is definitely a place that you need to get to and try for yourself – it’ll be worth it!

  1. First milkshake? What the? Nothing better than a good choc shake to wash down a greasy burger. It’s like a dessert in a cup and so refreshing. I suggest a sister site for “The Great Burger Caper”- Gerhard Berger’s “Magical Milkshake Tour”

    1. There is a first for everything Gerhard! Is a milkshake better than an ice cold beer though?…. Either way, your idea sounds awesome! lol…. and in the meantime, happy burgering!!
