Burger craving?

Out and about again recently, and this time it was a Saturday night and I found myself at a place called “Crave” in Boronia. Despite the menu being filled with pizzas, pastas and parmas, etc, I had seen this place advertise their restaurant using a picture of their burger. This is a gutsy move for a restaurant that is not known for its burgers, so I was keen to give it a go and find out what it was like.

With only one burger on the menu, the choice was simple. The “Crave Hamburger” which includes Black Angus 100% beef petty, BLT, caramelised onions, Swiss cheese, egg, pineapple and the chef’s special zesty sauce. I felt like I waited forever for the meal to arrive, although that thought was largely driven by how hungry I was. As I waited, I also had that thought process of, “should I have added an extra patty or not?!”. Hmmmmmm…… too late! It arrived!

This burger looked really good and was stacked quite high too. Picking it up was a challenge due to its slippery nature, and the placement of the pineapple in the middle of the burger against the meat seemed to be the main culprit! However, once I got a few bites in and had firmly secured my grip, it all settled down ok. This burger wasn’t bad. The meat was nice, although it fell apart like you’d expect your mums home made rissoles to do, and the “special zesty sauce” was more like a herb Mayo kind of thing. 3 slices of tomato were way too much, especially when one of them wasn’t very ripe too!? Ugh!! And whilst the bun was ordinary, it did “survive the trip” so to speak and didn’t fall apart under the pressure of the burger like I thought it would. I could have done without the rocket lettuce (of course), but the other flavours masked it’s impact, so didn’t bother me too much. The bacon was delightful and the best part was the egg!! It was already running out of the burger when it arrived and it tasted awesome….. or should I say, it tasted “egg-cellent!”

On reflection, this burger had a lot of things going for it and also a lot of things against it too?! And for the first time in the history of TGBC, I actually didn’t finish the burger! *gasp* I know! Tragic right? Well, it’s not as bad as you might think. I had to leave the last mouthful of bun only that was soaked in sauce and filled with rocket lettuce – I just couldn’t do it, which speaks volumes really?!

Anyway, chips on the side were pretty tasty and washed down with James Squires 150 Lashes, it was a good experience. Can’t say I will be rushing back there for a burger, but probably worthwhile giving it a chance if you’re there.

Is pineapple an essential burger ingredient?
