The Number of the Lot!

Found myself in the city recently on a Monday night as Iron Maiden were in town. I wanted to start the festivities off with a hearty meal, so before walking down to the concert, I headed to “Beer Deluxe” at Federation Square to get my burger on!! This is basically a bar that sells pub food in a relaxed atmosphere. I wasn’t the only one who had the idea either, as there were plenty of Iron Maiden tees littered throughout the place. It had been a long time since I’d been to this place and I was keen to see, with all the knowledge I have gathered, if the burger was still as good as I remembered?!

The first dilemma I faced was which burger to choose….. “The lot” or “Deluxe burger” – egg and tomato versus double patty!? Hmmmmmm….. what to do?! I was in the mood for more flavours rather than more meat, so “the lot” won this battle – beef patty, BLT, cheese, egg, onion, mayo and deluxe sauce.

As I sat and waited for my meal, I got more and more hungry. I waited. And waited. Perhaps this was their way of getting people to buy another drink while they waited?! Finally, almost 40 minutes later, my burger arrived!! The burger look pretty good, especially the egg, as the yolk was about to burst and run everywhere!! As soon as I squashed it down, that’s egg-xactly what happened! (yeah, that comment just happened too! Lol).

I was starving and whilst the meat, salad and bacon tasted quite good, the first thing that hit me was that it wasn’t very hot. In fact, it wasn’t hot at all. Something was afoot!? How could this be? I’d waited so long?! I expected that it would have been delivered almost straight off the grill, but noooooooo it probably took so long to arrive because it had been sitting on some bench somewhere waiting to be picked up and taken to my table?! To be honest, whilst I am not one to normally complain, I actually should have sent it back, but I didn’t have time to wait another 30 plus minutes for another one, and I didn’t want to be one of “those” people!! Plus there’s always the concern that someone will do something sinister to the meal as some sort of twisted pay back for wanting what you paid for right?? Lol

The curly chips that accompanied the meal were even colder, although I don’t think a higher temperature would have made them taste any better anyway. I went with a schooner of Sierra Nevada to wash it down, and luckily this was cold, despite not tasting great.

So all in all, the burger would probably be quite good if it was hot, or at least warm and it turns out that as expected, the best thing about the night was the Iron Maiden concert!! So from my perspective, if someone asks you to go to Beer Deluxe, then I’d suggest you “Run to the Hills” instead!! Lol

Where have you had a great pre-concert burger experience?
