Betty who?

When you run a Google search on “Best burger Gold Coast”, the first link that pops up is to an article from the Gold Coast Bulletin that rates the top 10 burgers of 2016. The number one winner is a place called “Betty’s Burgers and Concrete Co” in Surfers Paradise, so of course it was no question as to whether or not I would make my way there and find out for myself. Located in the Chevron Renaissance Shopping Centre, this place is only a short stroll from the beach and surrounding shops. After being greeted at the door, you simply find a seat and place an order.

The menu is loaded with frozen custard ice-cream creations (that they call concrete!) and a simple, straight forward burger menu, that only has a few options to choose from. I ordered the “Betty’s Classic” that comes with Angus beef, lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese and Betty’s special sauce. Also, to make sure I covered a few more bases, I decided to add bacon and some southern fried chicken too!!

This burger was served half wrapped in paper, in it’s own cardboard tray and was literally exploding out of the bun!! I unwrapped it and realigned this burger tower, so I’d have a more balanced eating experience. I picked it up and from the first bite, it was delightful! The flavour of the beef and chicken was what hit me first. Both tasted amazing in their own right, and also worked so well together too – it was like a match made in heaven! Adding bacon proved to be a winning move (again) as it added even more flavour and texture that further complimented the other fresh ingredients too. There was plenty of sauce, and whilst that created a very messy burger, it tasted great, without being too over powering. The bun was soft, slightly toasted and buttered to perfection, making it one of the highlights.

French fries on the side were terrific and I was glad that I decided to try one of their chocolate thick shakes too. It tasted soooooo good and went hand in hand with the taste of the burger.

Overall, this was an awesome experience and I can’t wait for them to open in Melbourne.  They definitely seem to deserve their number one spot on the Gold Coast burger list! Therefore, I think you can safely add this “Betty” to the famous list that already includes Rubble, Boo, White and Cuthbert!!
