Burger I’d like to….

MILF burger

Found myself at Burgerlove again recently, which is definitely one of my favourite places. I was there just before lunch, and it’s never too early for a burger so I thought I would indulge myself with another one of their tasty treats! I have tried so many of their burgers already, including the Boss, the Hayne Burger and even the Paralyzer. There was still one that I have always been desperate to try, and despite not being on the standard menu anymore, they offered to make it for me and of course I jumped at the chance. Finally it was going to happen. I was going to try the MILF!

This burger takes the experience to the next level. The MILF is a “Juicy Lucy” burger – two beef patties moulded together and stuffed with American cheddar cheese, bacon, double American cheddar, ketchup and yellow mustard. Then, the entire burger, including the bun is battered and deep fried! That’s right, the whole burger is battered and deep fried!

I was so excited as I waited for this burger, and couldn’t wait to taste it. It looked amazing. It was just a large, deep fried burger ball. I didn’t know how hot it would be so I waited a few minutes before picking it up, and once I did and took the first bite, I was hooked. This tasted amazing. As I bit into it, I expected it to be boiling hot, but it was actually a really good temperature. The meat was cooked perfectly and the cheese became like a sauce that mixed well with the ketchup and bacon. The batter around the outside created a perfect deep fried pocket that held all the cheesy, saucy goodness inside. Surprisingly, it held together well and was not messy to eat at all.

No chips with this meal, as it was all about the burger and I went with a simple water to wash it all down.

This was a truly unique and amazing experience. Yet again, Burgerlove had me excited about trying another burger and it did not disappoint either. I have always said the Paralyzer has been the most talked about burger experience that I have ever had, and I think the MILF will be it’s rival!

It was a Sunday afternoon and the weather was typical for Melbourne – cold enough that you need to rug up, yet sunny enough that you need to wear sunglasses. I was in the mood for a burger, so I headed to Flame Trees Burger Bar in Ferntree Gully. This was the second visit in recent weeks and I was excited to be having the opportunity to try something else on the menu.

I had a craving for a traditional styled burger with the lot, and couldn’t go past the “Great Southern Land” burger – beef, cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayo, egg, tomato sauce and of course, “hold the beetroot!”. Given I was particularly hungry, I also added another patty and extra cheese and why not too!?

This burger looked good when it arrived and I couldn’t wait to get stuck into it. It was just the right temperature – warm and not too hot or as I like to call it, “woofable”! Adding the extra patty was a good move as the beef tasted terrific, and the gooey cheese was devine. Combined with the bacon, egg and other fresh flavours, we were on a winner! Bun was good and lasted through the trip too.

Chips on the side were decidedly tasty too, with just the right amount of crunch. This time I tried a chocolate thick shake, which was really, really good. Sweet, but not sickly and with shards of chocolate mixed through too.

Overall, it was another good experience and one worth checking out for yourself! Eventually, I will try out their tripled up “dumb things” burger. Maybe next time?!

Another cold day in Melbourne and after a successful burger adventure the day before, I was keen to back it up with another good burger to help warm the inners! This time I headed to “Balwyn Canteen”, which I have heard good things about, so I was keen to find out for myself. It was a small unassuming place, reminiscent of an old school, fish n chip shop.

Interestingly, they had a burger with a donut as the bun, peanut butter and bacon in there too?! hmmmm…. I wondered if I’d like that?! However, I was in the mood for a “with the lot” styled burger, so I ordered the “Senior Burger” which came with double beef patty, double cheese, pickles, mustard, ketchup and canteen sauce. Then, I added lettuce, tomato, bacon and egg. This burger was bigger than I thought it would be and looked so good, with melted cheese falling out everywhere.

It was another burger that was quite slippery at first, until I got a good grip and steadied myself. A few bites in and I was hooked. The meat was really tasty and cooked perfectly, so I was glad it was a double patty. The cheese was on point. Bacon and egg delightful, and the Canteen sauce provided the right hint of flavour throughout the burger.

Chips on the side were good, and this time I had a bottle of water because I was counting calories – and I couldn’t count that high!! lol

Overall, a “knock out” experience, and I am glad I got there to find out what all the hype is about. Definitely worth a visit, and next time I might even branch out for the donut burger?! Although, I hear their fried chicken calling my name!!
