Well, the sun, sand and surf today certainly got my appetite up for a burger (not that it takes much to be honest!), so I visited “Ze Pickle” in Burleigh for dinner. The Gold Coast Bulletin named this as the best burger on the Gold Coast, so I was keen to see what they had to offer. This was a dark, funky kind of place serving up American-style burgers and craft beers.
There are plenty of different burgers to choose from and given my hunger levels I couldn’t go past the “Double Double”, which came with double hand pressed wagyu beef patties, double jack cheese, double maple smoked bacon and Ze Pickle sauce. I also opted to “add health” (lettuce and tomato) because I am really watching what I eat at the moment! Lol
Anyway, this was a very neat, well presented burger, and just like when some people meet for the first time, I knew as soon I saw this burger it was going to be good, and I was right! With only a little bit of tomato and lettuce on the bottom, not too much cheese that it took over the whole burger and only a hint of their special sauce, it was all about the meat – and as it should be, because the patties were some of the best going around! The soft, seeded bun (which you don’t see very often mind you!) held up throughout the meal too. The only criticism was the maple bacon was a little bit sweet and too streaky for me, but it did compliment the overall flavour of the burger.
Plenty of craft beers on tap, and the waitress chose me the “Nomad Sideways Pale Ale” which was enjoyable and worked well with the burger, although not something I would rush to have again. Chips on the side were really tasty too.
This was a great burger all round and despite double everything, wasn’t too heavy either! The service was quick and super friendly too. From my perspective, this definitely held up to the title of best burger on the Gold Coast. So if you’re in the area, I suggest you drop past and find out for yourself.
