On a recent trip down to the Mornington Peninsula, I timed my return trip perfectly. I was coming through Frankston right on lunchtime and of course I had burgers on my mind, so headed straight for “Big Dog Diner”. I’d heard a fair bit about this place and seen a lot of positive social media about it too, so as you can imagine, I was excited to be finally trying it out.
There is plenty to choose from on the menu, with lots of burgers and hot dogs to get your interest. I was in the mood for a traditional burger with the lot, and that’s exactly what I ordered. “The lot” burger comes with patty, double cheese, crispy lettuce, fresh cut tomato, onion, pickles, crispy bacon, egg, pineapple, Big Dog special sauce, and it was another “hold the beetroot” moment too!
This was a good looking burger, and I was wrapt that the egg yolk exploded as soon as I picked it up, creating a waterfall of gooey delightfulness that ran everywhere. The meat was full of flavour and well cooked. The salad was fresh and tasty too. The special sauce was good and didn’t take over the taste of the burger either. The best part was the texture of the crispy bacon. It absolutely complimented the rest of the ingredients and created the perfect contrast with each bite.
Fries on the side were great, and the chocolate thick shake was really good too and one of thickest of all time, resulting in me having to take it with me when I left because it was taking so long to get through it.
Overall it was a great experience and great value for money too, with the burger only costing $13 plus fries and shake for another $7. Definitely recommend you getting down there and trying it out for yourself.
